HONEXT®️ is an innovative company, based in Barcelona, that carries out a circular, carbon-neutral biotechnological process that transforms residual cellulose into an innovative, sustainable, versatile material with excellent properties for indoor applications. The company was created in 2011 by researchers from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and 3 generations of the Merino family: Ferran, Pedro and Pol Merino.
After 10 years of development, HONEXT®️ manufactures its panels at no cost to the planet in the company's first functional factory, integrated into a landfill in Vacarisses (Barcelona, Spain). With this integration, they ensure that the manufacture of their supra-recycled fiber boards has an environmental impact: gas and electricity come from waste processing and water is reused continuously in a closed circuit.
In the manufacturing process of their boards, they analyze and classify the waste according to the composition to obtain a standard product. Thanks to their R&D, the inclusion of certain enzymes in the process allows them to generate stronger bonds between cellulose fibers without the need for resins. Non-toxic additives are added to the recovered cellulose fibers and compress the material, forming a damp panel. They pass the wet panel through a drying tunnel. The remaining water evaporates with high temperature and air flow.
HONEXT®️ panels cover a wide range of construction applications.
