Ses Serretes, a unique architectural project, inspired by nature with Lunawood heat-treated wood
Gabarró Hermanos has collaborated with Lunawood heat-treated wood, the Finnish firm that distributes exclusively in our country, in the construction of a unique architectural project in the Balearic Islands.
It is an isolated single-family home, arranged horizontally on a single floor, designed by architect Adrián Bedoya from the Ibizan studio BMA Arquitectura. The project, inspired by nature, is located in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, southwest of the island of Ibiza and has been built by the construction company Bofibiza.
The program of the house is distributed between two clearly differentiated concrete planes, separated by a slatted framework of the thermo-treated wood brand Lunawood, distributed exclusively by Gabarró, which hides and protects all the spaces of the house from sunlight.
The project
The rocky island of Es Vedrà, located opposite, acts as a perpendicular axis to the floor plan of the house. In this way, all the rooms have the legendary Ibizan islet centered in their views.
The property consists of three levels, ground floor of 540m2, first floor of 265m2 and basement of 280m2, with 105m2 useful, on an urban plot of 2,153 m2.
On the first level, there is the living room and a large dining room that opens to the terrace, a kitchen with an island and large windows with lots of natural light and views of Es Vedrà, and a second terrace also on this level.
On the lower level is the sleeping area with 6 double bedrooms, all of them with en-suite bathrooms with shower and bathtub, a gym, a laundry room, a second 93m2 living room and a storage room.
The basement, in addition to the garage, has a technical room and three cisterns to store drinking water and to recover gray and rainwater.
Outside, the house is equipped with a 63m2 pool, with a 92m2 overflow, and several chill out terraces with views of Es Vedrà.
Luna Triple Lunawood Slats
For the interior and exterior coatings, and as a complement to the concrete, those responsible for the design of this project have opted for Luna Triple 32x140 heat-treated wood slats from Lunawood, which provide a modern and at the same time natural appearance to the home.
This premium 3D ThermoWood® cladding, awarded the sustainable products category at the Architecture MasterPrize 2021, is made from Nordic spruce. Its two deep grooves create a modern slat-like surface. It also has low maintenance and simple installation.
The Luna Triple coating, with possible fire-retardant treatment and present in the Gabarró Wood and Outdoor Products Catalog, is very suitable for all decorative surfaces where you want to achieve a sustainable wood surface without chemicals. Additionally, if left untreated outdoors, it develops a beautiful natural grayish patina.
The Thermowood process, used by Lunawood, modifies the aesthetic and technical properties of wood through a process that applies heat and steam. This improves the durability and dimensional stability of the wood for use in exterior applications.
