Flanders pine wood: characteristics and applications
The Nordic Pine, or Scots Pine
The Nordic Pine is the commercial name of the so-called Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), also known as Red Pine.
It is a tall tree, which can reach up to 40 meters in height, and can be found in humid and cold climates in mountainous regions, spread throughout the European continent. Scots pine is characterized by its upper part, which turns reddish as it loses its outer bark. This characteristic of the heartwood, plus its pale-yellow sapwood, are what give Flanders pine its characteristic colour.
Characteristics of Flanders pine wood
Flanders pine wood is a soft and semi-light wood (530 kg/m3), stable and with a tendency to deform to a medium degree. It is a straight grained wood with a medium to fine grain. The Flanders pine wood presents small to large, healthy and jumpy knots, and small resin pockets.
At the mechanization level, Flanders pine is a very moldable pine and ideal for machining, since sawing, planning, gluing and screwing are relatively easy, as well as the drying process is very fast. This makes it the ideal wood for the construction and production of all kinds of boards, slats, beams, etc.
What is Flanders pine used for?
Flanders Pine wood is one of the most used woods in the carpentry sector in general. Industrial carpentry, blinds, window or pre-frame manufacturers consume it by packages and usually have packages in stock. The most modest carpentry and industrial buy it by loose planks.
Flanders pine can be found in the form of mechanized wood, such as beams, tongue and groove, slats, profiles, posts... And also with different types of treatments.
Autoclave
The autoclave treatment gives a great resistance against external attacks. Resinous woods are an ideal raw material for this type of treatment. So that the wood is perfectly impregnated, the wood is previously dried. We offer preventive protection against all kinds of fungi, insects and marine invertebrates and harmful elements in construction on water.
Its application is for arboriculture, viticulture, enclosures and/or delimitations, signage...
Lunawood Thermowood Heat Treatment
Lunawood subjects the wood to a heat treatment process in which high temperatures and steam alternate, after which the final percentage of wood moisture is approximately 4-7%. This heat treatment improves the performance and expands the possibilities of use of heat-treated wood, since the natural tendency of wood to twist, swell or shrink in different humidity conditions is modified.
Its main application is in interior and exterior facade and ceiling cladding, urban furniture, saunas and exterior platforms.
