Lunawood Thermowood: A sustainable and technically preeminent alternative to the Russian Siberian Larch Pine.
Common features
Siberian Larch Pine fades to a gray-silver naturally with exposure, but can maintainits original color with good UV maintenance. Just like Lunawood wood.
The high resin content makes Siberian pine durable, with a class 3 durability (EN350-2). Lunawood heat-treated wood is resin-free and durable thanks to thermal modification, with class 2 durability (EN350-2). Thermal modification increases the biological durability of wood.
In addition, thermal modification only with heat and steam, without chemicals, improves the technical properties of Lunawood heat-treated wood, making it very dimensionally stable for decades.

- Lunawood Thermowood has better durability than Siberian pine
- Siberian pine is much more difficult to treat due to its structure and the amount of resin
- The color of Siberian pine varies greatly
Movement of wood
The movement of wood is a change in the dimensions of wood caused by changes in the environment related to humidity and temperature.
When the humidity is high, the wood absorbs the moisture and widens. When moisture falls, the wood is compacted. This movement is gradual and is not noticeable in weeks, but between seasons it can be a problem for doors, spaces between joints in wood work or the appearance of cracks in tables.

Origin of wood
Siberian larch: Northwest Russia and western Siberia. Also known as Russian Larch, this slow-growing tree is native to very cold climates and takes between 70 and 80 years to mature.
Lunawood: Sourced from sustainable Finnish forests and thermally modified in Finland. The tree takes 60-80 years to mature.
Arguments for Lunawood
- Little maintenance and natural souring process. Same phases as the natural process of souring and the final result is the same.
- Lunawood is very organic and authentic. It is non-toxic and the totally chemical-free process gives the product the same properties, but improving dimensional stability.
- The origin of Lunawood is from a very similar climate and vegetation area
- The origin of Lunawood is Finland. Raw material comes from sustainable Finnish forests
- Controlled quality, applied to color as well
- Light weight and easy to install, even with hidden screwing
- Wide range of profiles with digital design support
