Thermowood Lunawood: seminar in Maderalia 2022
On 29 March it took place the report “Thermowood Lunawood: tendency in innovative and sustainable projects” in the Room Ausiàs March of the Fair of Valencia during FIMMA Maderalia. The representative of Spain of Lunawood, Julia Ahvenainen, together with the general director of Gabarró Hermanos, Ramón Gabarró, presented the profits and the applications of the thermowood Lunawood, as well as his main novelties.
Lunawood Is a Finnish company with a method of thermal modification for the wood, that does it more stable and resistant than the normal wood. The thermal modification is a method in which the properties of the wood are modified with heat and steam, without applying other chemical products neither another toxic element, what does it highly sustainable and beneficial for the planet.
First it increases slowly the temperature, the material dry until a humidity of almost 0. It goes up the temperature until some 190-212ºC. Here it takes place the thermal modification and the chemical changes and physicists. Finally, it goes down the temperature and adjusts the humidity until a 4-7%.
The thermowood improvement the natural durability of the wood for his use in the outside, reduces drastically the swell of the wood and gives him a beautiful brown tone toasted.
The implication of the designers and architects in doing every time works more sustainable and respectful with the environment has generated a tendency in the projects made with wood.
For example, it detects a tendency to the cladding natural outsides, without superficial treatments and keeping the natural aging of the wood. Also, the combination of slats and panels, planted with different patterns, to play with the geometry and the depth of the façades. Also, it appreciates an increase of the combination of different materials in the façades, joining the wood with the cement, the glass, the marble or the iron.
Lunawood has solutions for these new tendencies in projects, with the different slats of several dimensions or the tongue and groove joint Luna Triple, Luna Trio and Panel System, that allow an effect of slat, but much simpler to install.
